Sandblasting erodes historic masonry by up to a millimeter every time it is used, and you only get so many millimeters. Laser cleaning is measured in microns and it is repeatable — which is why it is the method conservators specify on buildings that cannot be replaced.
Reversible methods only
Chemical graffiti removers wick into porous stone and can bloom back as a stain months later. The paint comes off, the ghost stays. Ablation removes the coating at the surface and leaves nothing in the pores to come back.
Layer by layer, under control
Coating removal does not have to be all or nothing. Passes can be stopped at an intermediate layer — useful when there is original paint, gilding or a maker's mark under a later finish that nobody knew was there.
You can watch it happen
This is a visual process, not a chemical dwell time. The operator sees exactly what is coming off in real time and stops at the line you agree on. On sensitive work, the owner or conservator stands right there and calls it.

Straight answers
When laser is the wrong tool.
Laser is not a universal solvent and we would rather tell you that now than after you have paid a mobilisation fee. It does not fill, fair or rebuild anything — it is a cleaning process, not a repair process. It is slower per square foot than blasting on large plain surfaces, so on a 40-foot run of ordinary steel fence, blasting is genuinely the better buy.
Some stone will darken or roughen if the parameters are wrong, which is exactly why every job starts with a test patch in an inconspicuous spot and nobody proceeds until you have looked at it.
